The family traveled down to Utah this last weekend to see Grandma Pope, Great Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, the Great Aunts and Uncles and the second cousins. We had a good time despite Abby getting a cold while down there.
Everly is doing good and getting big and we were told last Friday her bili-rubin levels are *finally* down to 10.2 which is the the lowest its been since she left the hospital nearly 3+ weeks ago. For those of you who didnt know, she came home with normal jaundice and then that morphed into breast milk jaundice (yes it exists google it if you dont know what it is). At her last doctors office visit she was up to 7lbs 4 oz. Supposedly breastfed baby's gain 6 oz a week on average but last week she gained 8 oz and the week before she had gained 10 ozs so in 2 weeks she is up over a whole pound! She carries the weight well but Abby says she can tell shes getting bigger because she doesnt fit into the nook of her arm as well anymore. We notice it a lot in her hands and in her face. Every time we wake up we can see her head is growing too and she is looking so good color wise compared to her jaundiced days. In the pictures you should be able to see a "belly" shot of the proof she is not starving. We call her our little bullfrog by how distended her stomach can get! Let's see what else.... She still has blue eyes but that could change. Her little fingernails are growing out and looking more normal which is good because we had a finger clipping accident where Dave got a little to close and about lopped off a pinkie finger. Needless to say she turned purple and it was a tragic event but all have recovered. She is such a good baby. Honestly we can not complain. Last week when Grandma Richards was here Everly really started practicing smiling in her sleep. Its SO cute. She has her mom's smile so when she smiles her eyes go all squinty and half moon shaped. She may even have dimples but we wont know for sure until we get a real smile. She has also started making more noise when she sleeps. Abby lovingly refers to this as sleeping next to the little garbage disposal but at least we know shes still breathing - right!?!?
Abby has recovered VERY well from being pregnant and considers having a baby to be "easier" (at least for now) than 9 months of being pregnant. Her blood pressure has come back down to normal and her eyesight has improved dramatically. Also we found out (afterwards) that she was actually really swollen and within just one week after having Everly she was down 24 pounds (including Everly). She was back to doing dishes and laundry just days after being home which she hasnt done since she was barely pregnant and has SO much more energey. Shes like a normal person again and is very grateful all went well and this pregnancy is over with and everyone is healthy. She is already talking about having another baby in the future, so she hasnt totally given up despite all thats happened. We see at least one more child (if not more in our future).
Abby will be on maternity leave through the first week of December and then will be heading back to work. Its earlier than planned but this means that she can become a "home agent" and although she will have to go back in early, she will only have to be there for a week and then will work from home from there on out which we figure will benefit our family greatly and will take a little stress off from all involved. After she goes to a home agent she will have two weeks off for Christmas and wont be back until the first of the year so its will be close to her full leave in the end in a round about way.
